Mumbai. Actor Abhilash Thapliyal, who plays the role of commentator Dev Mathews in Ajay Devgan’s upcoming film ‘Maidan’, talked openly about his character. The actor told that the film’s director Amit Sharma had called him in 2018 and told him to start learning football. He told, I trained for about a month, but could not succeed in the audition. I was in touch with him the whole time and even went to see the shooting once, I knew that what he was making would be amazing.
He told that in 2022 I got a call from him again and he asked me to become the narrator of the film, I happily agreed. We worked on the script for 4-5 days and went straight to shooting. He gave me free rein regarding my character commentator Dev Mathews. The actor drew on his experience as a radio jockey for his role in ‘Maidan’.

He said that through his role in the film, he gives the audience a deep understanding of the stakes of each match and the personal journey of the characters involved on the field. Talking about his upcoming projects, he said, I can’t wait for the Indian audience to see ‘Kennedy’, have just completed a beautiful short film for the festivals, and some more interesting projects when the time comes.
