New Delhi. Bhojpuri actor, singer and BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, who became popular with songs like ‘Hee Hee Hee Hans Dele, Rinkia Ke Papa’ and ‘Jiya Ho Bihar Ke Lala’, recently talked about the changes in the Bhojpuri industry. He said that Bhojpuri cinema needs sensitive filmmakers like Satyajit Ray and Prakash Jha to move forward with the changing times. Along with this, he also gave a suggestion, which if adopted by the makers, then Bhojpuri industry can definitely compete with South cinema.
Manoj Tiwari admitted that despite huge popularity, Bhojpuri cinema has still not reached the national level. Why did he say that we need to take steps to take Bhojpuri cinema forward. Let us tell you what suggestions the Bhojpuri actor and singer gave…
Despite popularity, Bhojpuri industry is backward
Manoj Tiwari is one of the big names of Bhojpuri industry. The Bhojpuri star, who has worked in more than 100 films including ‘Sasura Bada Paisawala’, ‘Daroga Babu I Love You’ and ‘Bandhan Toote’, recently spoke with news agency PTI editors. He said that despite huge popularity, the cinema of the region has still not reached the national level and steps need to be taken for this. He said that for this, we also need directors like Prakash Jha, Satyajit Ray Sahab. We have a lot of viewers, but we still haven’t reached that level.
Need of directors like Satyajit Ray-Prakash Jha
Cinema legend Satyajit Ray gave a new name to the industry with classic films like ‘Pather Panchali’, ‘Aparajito’, ‘Apur Sansar’ and ‘Charulata’ along with Bengali culture while Prakash Jha gave a new name to the industry with films like ‘Gangajal’, ‘Apharan’. ‘And through films like ‘Rajneeti’, he has tried to capture the socio-political issues of Bihar.
Manoj Tiwari’s big suggestion
Manoj Tiwari said, ‘The day filmmakers from the Bhojpuri belt start presenting stories like ‘Mirzapur’ and ‘Maharani’ for the big screen, it will be in a position to compete with South cinema, which is currently in its own right. Is at its peak. He said that the time for Bhojpuri cinema will come.
Web series like ‘Mirzapur’ or ‘Maharani’, these stories are from our region, from Bhojpuri cinema. Bhojpuri makers are not taking up such stories, but the day such films start being made, the day will come when Bhojpuri industry will compete with South cinema.
Audiences not going to watch movies in theatres?
He said that Bhojpuri film industry produces about 60-70 films annually, adding that the theatrical exhibition industry is not in a good condition today. Manoj Tiwari said, ‘When I was doing films, there were times when a film with a budget of Rs 1.5 crore would earn around Rs 30-35 crore at the box office. My first film (Sasura Bada Paisawala) earned Rs 56 crore. Today people are not coming to theaters to watch movies. Another reason for this could be that the owners are also not interested in the theater business. But, Bhojpuri cinema remains a topic of discussion all over the world.
