Mumbai : In Mumbai, a stage actor has filed a police complaint against the driver of app-based ‘cab’ service Uber for making death threats and snatching mobile phones. The police gave this information on Friday. The alleged incident took place on Wednesday night, when Marathi theater actor Pramod Shinde (44), along with his 11-year-old child and two members of his theatrical troupe, booked an Uber cab from suburban Ghatkopar to go to their home in Borivali, an official said.
He said the cab driver asked the actor to alight from the ‘cab’ before reaching the destination, following which a fight broke out between the two. When Pramod Shinde urged him to drop her outside his house, the driver took the cab to Magathane bridge and allegedly threatened to kill the passengers, the official said. The actor then lodged a complaint with the Kasturba Marg police station on Thursday and then approached the ‘cab’ company. The driver has been identified as Rakesh Yadav, a resident of Virar.
When contacted, Uber’s spokesperson said, “The incident is unfortunate and should not happen to anyone.” We have removed the driver from the Uber app. We stand ready to cooperate with law enforcement authorities as required. (agency)
