Suzuki and Toyota have already launched the rebadged version of the Baleno Glanza and the rebadged version of the Brezza, the Urban Cruiser, as part of a global partnership. Under this partnership, Toyota is now working on a new mid-sized SUV, which will compete with Hyundai’s Creta and Kia’s Seltos. The Glanza and Urban Cruiser are manufactured by Maruti and supplied to Toyota. However, this time Toyota will manufacture the new SUV and its Maruti rebadged version at its Karnataka plant. This has been said in a report by Rushlane.
Both SUVs will be based on the same platform, will have unique styling
The testing of these new Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) has been seen for the first time. Both the SUVs will be based on the same platform, but will come with unique styling on the exterior and interior. The codename for the Toyota version is D22. At the same time, the internal codename of the Maruti version is YFG. The Maruti-Toyota midsize SUV will be all-new. The company wants to offer truly unique products to the customers in this highly competitive segment. Maruti has the S-Cross, but it has not been able to give a tough competition to the Creta and Seltos. The company is also working on the new-generation S-Cross.

New architecture used in Maruti-Toyota SUV
The new architecture will be used in the new Maruti-Toyota SUVs. This architecture has been specially developed keeping in mind the specific requirements of emerging markets like India. It is currently being used in many cars of Toyota and Daihatsu in the global markets. Maruti’s Brezza and its rebadged version Urban Cruiser Smart Hybrid are equipped with mild hybrid technology. In the new SUVs, Toyota may use a strong hybrid system, which will be similar to the technology used in cars like the Camry.
