Famous step-up comedian Vir Das was heavily trolled on social media for one of his poems. He read that poem during a show in Washington DC, USA. After which he also posted this performance on his YouTube channel.
Comedian and actor Vir Das was embroiled in controversy when he recited a poem titled ‘Two Indias’ during a standup comedy in Washington DC, USA. Vir Das uploaded a segment of this video on his YouTube channel. On this, some users on social media started calling him an insult to India by going abroad. With this the trolling of Vir Das also started.
In this video some excerpts from the poem read by Virdas are as follows.I come from an India where children hold each other’s hands even wearing masks, but leaders hug each other without masks.
I come from India, where the AQI is 9000 but we still lie on our roofs and watch the stars at night.
I come from India, where we worship women during the day and get gang-raped at night.
I come from India, where we are divided on Twitter about Bollywood, but in the dark of theatre, we are united because of Bollywood.
I come from an India where journalism is dead, male journalists praising each other and female journalists sitting on the streets with laptops, telling the truth.
I come from the India where you can hear our laughter outside the walls of our house and I also come from the India where the walls of the comedy club are torn down when the sound of laughter comes from inside Is.
I come from India, where large population is below 30 years of age but we never stop listening to 150 years old ideas of 75 year old leaders.
I come from such India, where we are given every information related to PM but we do not get any information about PMCares.
I come from an India where women wear saris and sneakers and even then they have to consult an old man who hasn’t worn a sari all his life.
I come from India, where we take pride in being vegetarian but crush the same farmers who grow these vegetables.
I come from India, where we give full support to the soldiers, till their pension is not discussed.
I come from India, which will not sit silent.
I come from that India, which will not even speak.
I come from India who will curse me to talk about our evils.
I come from that India, people who openly talk about their shortcomings.
I come from that India, who will see this and say ‘Yeh nahi comedy.. Where is the joke?’
And I also come from that India who will see this and know that this is a joke. Just not funny.
When people protested on this video, Virdas also presented a clarification regarding his video. Virdas has posted on his Twitter handle that his intention was not to insult the country. He has also described the country as great.
In his post regarding the video, Virdas wrote with folded hands- “In that video I have talked about two Indias which are very different from each other. Like in any country there is sun shade, there is good and evil. Here Everything clears up.” He further added in his statement, “There was patriotic applause. It was all for the country we all love. We believe in and we are proud of.”
