Actually famous film producer Bharat Shah was investing money in this film. Bharat Shah was arrested in connection with the underworld connection. Bharat Shah was a big producer. Used to produce many films together. When he was arrested by the Mumbai Police, his money was invested in 11 films. One of these was Salman Khan, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta starrer ‘Chori Chori Chupke Chupke’. In this, the money belonged to Bharat, but instead of Bharat, the name of a Nazim Rizvi was written.
Nazim was a special person of Chhota Shakeel. Nazeem was arrested by the police. The police came to know from Nazim that the underworld money is being invested in the films being made in Bharat’s production. Bharat was arrested under MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act). Then the biggest film being made in Bharat’s production was ‘Devdas’. The daily cost of shooting for ‘Devdas’ was Rs 7 lakh. The shooting of ‘Devdas’ was first canceled after Bharat’s arrest. Bhansali was worried that his picture might get canned. But Bharat Shah came out of jail and the shooting of Devdas film started once again. More than Rs 50 crore was spent to make the film.
In the year 2012, ‘Devdas’ was released on the big screen on July 12. The film proved to be the biggest hit of that year. ‘Devdas’ had received 11 awards at the Filmfare Awards, which included awards ranging from Best Film, Best Director to Best Actor. ‘Devdas’ also raised the flag at the National Film Award. The film was honored with 5 National Film Awards.
