New Delhi, 14 April (IANS). Arsenic is a chemical element that is poison for human body. It has a negative effect on the mind and heart. A new research suggests that the amount of toxic chemicals in brown rice is more than 50 percent, so precaution should be taken before consuming. But why does this happen? Why is it high in poisonous substance? The research report also reveals this.
The research paper published in the Villey online library shows that the amount of arsenic in brown rice is quite high.
In this research, researchers analyzed the data of rice samples and found that brown rice contains 24% more arsenic and 40% more in-organ arsenic (which is a known carcinic matter) than white rice i.e. white rice.
The study also suggests that “brown rice in children below five years of age can cause a harmful effects of arsenic,” because they eat more food relative to their body weight than adults. According to the World Health Organization i.e. WHO, coming into contact with arsenic in childhood, “Young adults have negative effects and increase mortality.”
Now the question arises as to why brown rice poisonous? Brown rice has high arsenic levels, as this toxic element accumulates in the outer layers of the grain, which remains intact in it, while it is removed from white rice during processing.
This simply means that the amount of fiber and nutrients in brown rice as well as arsenic is not low.
Experts also give necessary advice about this. According to him, it should not be completely avoided, but should insist on diversifying options. Such methods of cooking should be adopted so that the amount of arsenic can be reduced. That method may be to wash rice thoroughly and cook it in excess water. It should be noted when cooking especially for young children.
