New Delhi, 3 May (IANS). There has been a rapid increase in measles cases in the US this year. So far, 935 cases have been confirmed, which is more than three times the cases that have come in the entire year in 2024 last year. This information has been given by the Disease Control and Prevention Center (CDC) of America.
According to the Xinhua News Agency, 12 outbreaks of measles have been recorded across the US this year. According to the CDC, when three or more cases related to each other come together, it is called outbreak.
The CDC has reported that the best way to avoid measles is vaccination. This disease can be prevented to a great extent by getting measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine twice.
Meanwhile, 12 children died of seasonal influenza virus infection in the week ended on 26 April in the US. In this flu season, a total of 216 deaths of children have been done so far. This number is more than any normal (non-mahamari) flu season. The previous highest number of number was 207, which was recorded in the 2023-2024 season.
The CDC says that although the flu cases are now slowly decreasing, this time the flu season has been very serious and has affected people, elders and elderly people of all ages. Such a serious season has been seen for the first time since 2017-2018.
This time, due to flu in America, about 4.7 crore people have become ill so far, 6.1 lakh people have been hospitalized and 26,000 people have died.
The CDC is constantly advising that all the people above the age of 6 months must get the flu vaccine every year as long as this virus is spreading.
Dr. Sean O’Lery of the American Academy of Pediatrics says that this time a major reason for the flu being more serious is that less children have been vaccinated with flu.
