In the fast, home -made pure sweets, pudding or pua can be consumed.
From the perspective of health, it is advisable to eat plain food one day before any fast. That is because tamasic food is considered heavy and not digestible. This can cause damage to the body. Tamasic food does not provide energy to the body during the fasting period and it becomes a little difficult to follow the rules of the fast.
It is believed that on this day Savitri had ordered the life of her husband Satyavan from Yamraj, and since then this fast is celebrated every year with reverence and faith.
The method of worshiping this fast is very special. Women who keep fast wake up early in the morning and take a bath. Banyan tree has special significance in this fast. Before worshiping, clean the banyan tree ie under the tree and prepare the place of worship. Worship Savitri and Satyavan, and offer water to the Vat tree. Tie the Vat tree with red thread and revolve around 7 times. Read the fast story and perform Aarti in the end. Donate to the poor and Brahmins and seek blessings from them. Practice the fast the next day after sunrise.
