25 percent additional tariff on the purchase of oil from Russia by Donald Trump has come into effect from Wednesday. This is already in addition to 25 percent duty imposed by the US on Indian imports. On this step, the Congress has questioned the foreign policy of the central government.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called it the result of the government’s “superficial” foreign policy and said that it would “huge employment loss” in India. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his alleged victorious strategy “Maga Miga = Mega” earlier this year, but now this “Modi -made mega” has become “great convenience” for India.
Jairam Ramesh said that the statement of Trump Tariff and the US Commerce Secretary on the recent H1B visa program is part of the “Mahasa Vacup” for India. He wrote, “Trump’s double tariff has now come into force, which will undoubtedly affect India’s labor-dominated exports-especially textiles, jewelry, leather, marine products and engineering.” He further stated that “In the last twenty four hours, the US Commerce Secretary also made a statement against the H1B visa system, which has the biggest benefit to Indian IT professionals.”
Jairam Ramesh reminded that Prime Minister Modi coined the new source “Make India Great Again” (MIGA) during the visit of Washington in February, inspired by President Trump’s MAGA mantra. Modi introduced it as “Mega Partnership” between the two countries, but now this strategy has become a problem for India.
Mallikarjun Kharge wrote on Twitter, “Narendra Modi ji, your dear friend ‘This time, Trump Sarkar’ has imposed 50 percent tariff on India from today. As the first shock, there will be a loss of ₹ 2.17 lakh crore in only 10 sectors.”
Congress leaders say that this tariff policy can have a serious impact on India’s exports and employment and the central government needs to see its effects seriously.
