A man tried to set himself on fire near Parliament House, admitted to hospital

A man tried to set himself on fire near the new Parliament building in the national capital on Wednesday. An official of Delhi Fire Department (DFS) gave this information.

The victim has been identified as Jitendra and is a resident of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. His age is around 30 years.

The official said that information about the incident, which took place near Rail Bhavan in front of Parliament House, was received at around 3.35 pm, after which a fire brigade vehicle was sent to the spot.

He told that the security personnel deployed near the Parliament took the person to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

“He tried to set himself on fire at the roundabout near Rail Bhawan,” an official statement said. The local police and railway police along with some people immediately extinguished the fire and the person was taken to the hospital.

According to preliminary investigation, Jitendra took this step due to a dispute with some people at his house in Baghpat.

Police said that Jitendra had reached Delhi by train on Wednesday morning. His half-burnt bag and some other items were recovered from the spot.

A police officer said that the man’s family members have been contacted and investigation into the matter is ongoing.
