The body of Captain Sumit Sabharwal, an Air India aircraft, who crashed in Ahmedabad last week, was brought to Mumbai on Tuesday.
An official said that Sabharwal’s body reached Mumbai airport by plane in the morning and his family members will take him to his residence in Jal Vayu Vihar in Powai.
He informed that the body will be kept at Sabharwal’s house for the last darshan of the people for one hour and later his last rites will be performed at the Chakla Vidyut crematorium.
Sabharwal (56) lived in Mumbai with his elderly parents.
Air India aircraft AL-171, carrying 242 passengers and crew members, crashed in Ahmedabad on 12 June. All of them were killed, while 29 people on the ground were also killed due to the plane colliding with a medical complex.
The unfortunate flight was commanded by Captain Sabharwal, he was accompanied by first officer Clive Kunder. The DGCA earlier said in a statement that Sabharwal had an 8,200 -hour flight experience, while Kundar had a 1,100 -hour flight experience.
