The Supreme Court will hear the petition on Monday that requested to implement specific guidelines and rules to ensure the safety of the devotees who join the Mahakumbh.
At least 30 people were killed and 60 others were injured in a stampede on January 29 in the Sangam area during the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.
According to the suit list of ‘uploaded’ on the court’s website, a bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar will hear the PIL filed by Advocate Vishal Tiwari.
The petition requested to prevent stampede incidents and protect equality and fundamental rights of life under Article 21.
In the petition, the Center and all the states have been made parties. It requested the Central and State Governments to work collectively to ensure a safe environment for the devotees in the Mahakumbh.
The petition stated that this petition has been filed under Article 32 of the Constitution of India, requesting state governments to give guidelines to prevent stampede incidents in Mahakumbh.
The petitioner has urged the apex court to direct the Uttar Pradesh government to present the status report on the stampede incident and take legal action against those responsible for negligence.
