New Delhi. The Supreme Court today reserved its decision on Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea. In the debate that lasted for more than four hours today, Kejriwal’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi and ASG SV Raju from CBI’s side presented strong arguments. After hearing both the sides, the bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan said that written arguments should be presented in the next two days, we will meet on Tuesday i.e. 10th September. ASG Raju opposed Kejriwal’s bail and said that if the Supreme Court grants him bail, then this order will lower the morale of the Delhi High Court. Let us tell you that the Delhi High Court has already rejected Kejriwal’s bail plea. The Delhi CM has challenged this order in the Supreme Court.

Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer Sanjeev Nasiyar said that we hope to get bail soon. Explaining the court’s action, he said that today Abhishek Manu Singhvi told in detail how Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest is illegal and why he should be granted bail. Our argument was that in 2022, the CBI had registered a case in this regard and Arvind Kejriwal was called as a witness. He was questioned for more than eight hours, after which the CBI did not take any action. After the ED arrested Arvind Kejriwal in March 2024, the CBI became active again in June 2024 as the investigating agency was ordered by its bosses to put Arvind Kejriwal in jail.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI in the liquor scam case. Earlier, the ED had also arrested Arvind Kejriwal. The Supreme Court had granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal in the case of arrest by the ED. The trial court had also granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal, but Arvind Kejriwal did not get bail from the trial court and the Delhi High Court in the case of arrest by the CBI. Arvind Kejriwal then filed two petitions in the Supreme Court. In one, the arrest by the CBI has been opposed. Whereas, Arvind Kejriwal has filed a second petition for bail. The ED has accused Arvind Kejriwal of being the kingpin of the liquor scam and that he collected Rs 100 crore from the South Cartel and spent Rs 45 crore out of that in campaigning for the Aam Aadmi Party in the Goa Assembly elections. At the same time, Arvind Kejriwal says that there was no liquor scam. He also says that the ED and the CBI have not been able to recover even a single penny related to the scam till date.
