Delhi government implemented new rules, now summons-wide will be found on WhatsApp and email

The Delhi government has notified the Delhi BNSS (summons and warrant service) Rules, 2025, paving the way for the electronic delivery of court coordination and warrant through WhatsApp and e-mail.

He said that this step will save time and ensure early distribution of summons.

Officials said on Saturday that the notification issued by the Home Department of Delhi Government was first approved by Lt. Governor VK Saxena.

A senior government official said that the provision of electronic delivery will get the police force freed from paperwork and clerical duties, which will strengthen their policing activities and investigation.

Now, summons to be issued by the courts will be prepared electronically and they will be digital seal and signature of the concerned judge. The police will then inform the concerned person through email or WhatsApp.

According to the rules, if the electronic delivery fails or the details are not available to do so, the courts may direct the physical delivery of the summons.

These rules protect the identity of victims, including women, girls and adolescents, in some cases such as the Poxo Act, keeping their email ID and phone numbers.

Police Station will now keep records of persons receiving summons or warrants under the Indian Civil Protection Code (BNSS) 2023.

Officials said that these details would be verified, uploaded to crime and criminal tracking network systems and shared monthly with jurisdictional courts.

Officials said the police stations will have to set up electronic summons distribution centers to send electronic summons and warrants digitally and keep their records.
