Petitions against Waqf law will be heard in the Supreme Court.
The Waqf Amendment Bill has been approved by the President after passing both houses of Parliament from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Now the Waqf Bill has become a law. However, opposition parties and Muslim organizations have filed a petition against this bill in the Supreme Court. Now the Supreme Court has fixed the date of hearing on the petitions against the Waqf Act. The Supreme Court will hear the petitions against the Waqf Act on the date of April 16.
Central government filed caviate
On the other hand, the Central Government has also filed a cavity in the Supreme Court regarding the case of Waqf law. The cavity petition states that no unilateral order should be passed by the Supreme Court without listening to the Central Government. The court also heard the arguments of the Central Government before passing any order.
What is cavity petition?
Caviet is considered a legal notice of a way. This is filed by any party so that it can be ensured that he is given a chance to hear before giving any order in the proceedings of a case. It is also considered a precautionary remedy. Provision for filing cavity has been given in Section 148-A of Code 1963.
Which people filed a petition?
Till now more than 10 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the Waqf law. Those who filed the petition include DMK, Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi, Asaduddin Owaisi, Congress MP Mohammad Javed, AIMPLB, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind etc. Explain that a bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice KV Vishwanathan has agreed to consider the petitions against the Waqf Act for immediate hearing.
How was voting in Lok Sabha-Rajya Sabha?
President Draupadi Murmu approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 on 5 April. The bill was passed after a late night debate in both the Houses Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha of Parliament. In voting for the Waqf Bill, 128 members in the Rajya Sabha voted in favor of the Waqf Bill and 95 members in protest. At the same time, 288 members in the Lok Sabha supported the Waqf Bill while 232 voted in protest.
