Chennai. Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has called a meeting of the CM of the Opposition in Chennai on the issue of delimitation of Lok Sabha seats today. Mamta Banerjee’s TMC has opted out of this meeting. In the meeting of Stalin, CM Revanth Reddy of Telangana, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivkumar. Representatives of Chandrashekhar Rao’s BRS and Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD) are going to join. Stalin has described this meeting as a historic day for the federalism of India.

Actually, Lok Sabha seats are to be delimited. The Lok Sabha elections of 2029 are to be held on the basis of delimitation of Lok Sabha seats. Tamil Nadu CM Stalin has expressed apprehension that after delimitation, seats may decrease in the Lok Sabha of his state and other states of South India. Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala have also voiced their tone. Stalin says that the states of the south have controlled population and due to this delimitation is expected to reduce the number of seats in the south states in the Lok Sabha. CMs of the states of South India, including Stalin, are demanding that the number of Lok Sabha seats in the delimitation should not be reduced.

At the same time, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has already said that it is apprehensive that the seats will be reduced in the Lok Sabha of a state after delimitation. Amit Shah has said that under the delimitation on Pro-Reta Bay, the state will be allotted Lok Sabha seats. Tamil Nadu has 39 Lok Sabha seats. At the same time, there are 20 seats in Kerala, 17 in Telangana and 28 seats in Karnataka Lok Sabha. In this way, the total number of seats in terms of opposition alliance at the center is very important. Looking at the current situation of the states of the south, there is a government of Left parties in Kerala, Congress in Karnataka and Telangana and DMK in Tamil Nadu.
