Rahul Gandhi: Ruckus over Rahul Gandhi's statement on Sikhs, BJP Sikh cell protests in Delhi

New Delhi: The controversy over the statement made by Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi regarding Sikhs is not taking the name of stopping. On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Delhi BJP’s Sikh cell officials reached outside his residence to protest. Around 4 pm, a large number of BJP workers gathered there and started shouting slogans and creating ruckus. During the protest, some BJP workers climbed the barricades of Delhi Police and started raising slogans against Rahul Gandhi. As the situation worsened, Delhi Police started detaining the protesters to control the situation. Police detained many leaders including BJP Sikh leader R. P. Singh involved in the protest.

After being detained, R.P. Singh told news agency ANI, “Rahul Gandhi should apologize for the false statement made against Sikhs. He has defamed India using foreign soil. Rahul Gandhi has now forgotten the tenure of his father Rajiv Gandhi, when 3,000 Sikhs were massacred in Delhi in 1984.”

What did Rahul Gandhi say in America?

In fact, Rahul Gandhi had said in a program during his US tour, “There is a conflict in India about whether a Sikh will be allowed to wear a turban or a kada or not, and whether a Sikh will be allowed to go to the Gurudwara or not.” Since this statement of his, there has been protest from the BJP and Sikh organizations. The political atmosphere across the country is heated due to this statement of Rahul Gandhi, and the BJP is seeing it as an insult to the Sikh community.
