On Wednesday, India successfully tested its medium-grade ballistic missile Agni-5 from Odisha-based Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur. The Ministry of Defense said in a statement that this launch certified all the operational and technical standards and the test was conducted under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command (SFC).
Agni-5 and MIRV Capacity
The missile tested on Wednesday is a variant of Agni-5, which India has developed indigenously as an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). Its firepower is 5,000 kilometers. This system has been developed by DRDO keeping in mind the country’s long -term security requirements.
Previous test
The last trial of Agni-5 took place on 11 March 2024.
At that time DRDO successfully tested it by equipping it with MIRV (Multiple Independent Targetable Re-Entry Vehicle).
Due to MIRV technology, several goals can be attacked simultaneously with the same missile.
