New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey’s statement on the Supreme Court has created a ruckus in political circles. Dubey accused the Supreme Court of weakening the power to enact the law of Parliament and go out of his constitutional limit. Congress leaders have reacted sharply to his statement and termed it unfortunate. Congress leader Manikam Togor has expressed hope that the Supreme Court judge Nishikant Dubey will take cognizance of the statement.

After all, what did Nishikant Dubey say?

BJP MP Dubey had said, ‘The Supreme Court is responsible for inciting religious war in the country. The Supreme Court is going out of its limits. If you have to go to the Supreme Court for everything, then Parliament and Assembly have no meaning, it should be closed. How can you give instructions to the Opportunity Authority? The President appoints the Chief Justice of India. Parliament enacts the law of this country. How did you make a new law? In which law it is written that the President has to decide within 3 months? This means that you want to take this country towards anarchy. When Parliament is seated, there will be a detailed discussion on it.

Supreme Court instructions are in discussion

The Supreme Court has recently given two important instructions. On 8 April 2025, in the Tamil Nadu vs. Governor case, the court directed the President to take a decision on the bills sent by the governors in three months and Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Delayed Ravi’s delay unconstitutional. At the same time, on 15 April 2025, an interim order was issued on the Waqf (Amendment) Act and sent a notice to the Center. This law was passed by Parliament to improve the management of Waqf properties. Following these instructions of the Supreme Court, statements about the power of Parliament and the boundary of the Supreme Court intensified.

Congress leaders sharp reaction

Congress leaders have expressed strong opposition to Dubey’s statement as an attack on democratic institutions. Congress MP Imran Masood said, ‘Such statements against the Supreme Court are very unfortunate. This is not the first time the Supreme Court has ruled against the government with absolute majority. This frustration is beyond comprehension. ‘ At the same time, Salman Khurshid said, ‘If an MP questions the Supreme Court or any court, it is very sad. The last word in our legal structure is not of the government but of the Supreme Court. If no one understands it, then it is a matter of serious concern.

Tagore and Digvijay also rained on Dubey

Congress leader Manikam Tagore said that Dubey has made a statement ‘defaulting against the Supreme Court’. He said, ‘Nishikant Dubey has been constantly making statements on other institutions. Now he has attacked the Supreme Court. This statement is made outside Parliament, so I hope that the Supreme Court judges will take cognizance of it. His attack on the Supreme Court is unacceptable. At the same time, Digvijay Singh lashed out at Dubey’s statement and said, “When Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister, he was sought to resign on the basis of the decision of a High Court judge. At that time BJP people supported the High Court judge. Why are you now against the decision of the Supreme Court?
