Jaipur. The outstanding electricity bills in the central and state government departments and undertakings will be recovered strictly by running a campaign. Additional Chief Secretary Energy Dr. Subodh Agrawal, in a review meeting held at Vidyut Bhawan on Tuesday, directed the Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur DISCOMs to take strict steps for recovery of dues in government departments and undertakings and make concerted efforts to recover the arrears. He also urged the government departments and undertakings including urban bodies to immediately deposit all other outstanding electricity bills including Public Electricity System (PLS) of DISCOMs so that DISCOMs do not have to take any untoward action including disconnection of electricity connections and the general public. Don’t cause any inconvenience.
ACS Dr. Aggarwal said that till February, about Rs 2390 crore has been released in Central and State Government Departments and Undertakings. The arrears have been taken seriously by the Central and State Governments. The highest outstanding amount is in urban bodies, UITs, municipalities, city councils, municipal corporations etc. In view of this, the government has given relief of about 532 crores by giving exemption of bill fee surcharge on depositing the outstanding electricity bill immediately. He directed the three DISCOMs that the bodies and institutions which have not yet been given notices for depositing the outstanding amount, should also be asked to deposit the outstanding electricity bill amount without giving five days’ notice. He said that if necessary, strict steps like disconnecting the electricity should be taken.
Dr. Agrawal said that for the payment of outstanding electricity bills in the PHED department, the finance department of the state government has released the amount by making additional financial provisions. Similarly, due to non-payment of electricity bills in other departments, despite the availability of funds, the financial condition of the DISCOMs is adversely affected. He directed the three DISCOMs to expedite the recovery of outstanding electricity bills in government departments as well as other outstanding electricity bills. He made it clear that no laxity would be tolerated in recovery of outstanding electricity bills.
Chairman DISCOMs Bhaskar A. Sawant said that the recovery of outstanding electricity bills is being monitored regularly and as a result of the efforts of the department, the Finance Department has released additional amount for payment of outstanding electricity bills of PHED. He directed the Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer DISCOMs to conduct arrears recovery drive by March 31 and asked them to review the recovery daily. Earlier, ACS Energy Dr. Subodh Agarwal reviewed the implementation of the budget announcements.
