Mumbai Police has exposed a vicious gang that cheated Indians in the name of taking them to Thailand and providing them jobs. It is alleged that in the name of getting high paying jobs, 25 youth were taken to Laos by pretending to be from Thailand. They have also been forced to commit cyber crimes there. Police have said that two people – Jerry Jacob and his partner Godfrey Alvares – have been arrested in this case. Another agent named Sunny is also named in the police FIR.
What is the whole matter?
The police officer has said that a case was registered against this fraud racket on March 23. Jacob is the kingpin of this racket. According to the police, Yadav and three other people from Thane were victims of this fraud. Yadav told the police that he had gone to Thailand in December 2022 in the hope of earning good money but he was taken to Laos near the border of Thailand. All of them have been able to return to India from there with the help of the Indian Embassy.
implicated in crime
According to police, Jacob, Alvares and Sunny allegedly transported Yadav and about two dozen Indians to Laos. Here they were made to work in a call center from where cyber fraud was done with people in Europe, America and Canada through fake social media accounts. They used to impose heavy fines on call center employees for trivial matters. Apart from this, when the Indian youth approached the embassy, the accused beat them badly.
Indian Embassy saved
Police have said that with the intervention of the Indian Embassy, the local police freed all four, including Yadav. Police have registered a case against the accused for intimidation, wrongful confinement, smuggling and fraud. The accused were produced in the court on Tuesday, from where they have been sent to police custody till March 30.
Cheated more than 100 people
Police say that the accused were arrested when they had come to meet their family members. During interrogation it was revealed that they were trying to flee the country within a few days. Police have suspected that the gang members have duped more than 100 unemployed youth across the country in the last few years by luring them with jobs abroad. (input language)
