Global Report On Food Crises: In the year 2023, about 282 million people in 59 countries will be forced to suffer from hunger and the maximum number of people faced severe famine conditions in war-torn Gaza. The United Nations gave this information in the ‘Global Report on Food Crisis’ on Wednesday. According to the report, more than 24 million people faced severe food shortages in 2022, due to deteriorating food security conditions, especially in the Gaza Strip and Sudan. The number of countries with food crises that are being monitored also increased.
The scale of hunger has been decided
Maximo Torero, chief economist at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, said international experts have set a scale of hunger that puts 705,000 people in five countries at stage five, which is considered the highest level. He said that this number is the highest since the beginning of the global report in 2016 and has increased four times compared to the number recorded in 2016.
People are suffering from hunger
Economist Maximo Torero said that 80 percent of the people facing severe famine, i.e. 577,000, are in Gaza alone. Thousands of people are suffering from hunger in South Sudan, Burkina Faso, Somalia and Mali. Huge difficulties are also faced in providing aid here.
The situation will worsen further
The report estimates that about 1.1 million people in Gaza and 79,000 people in South Sudan could reach stage five by July and face famine. The war between Israel and Hamas has been going on for seven months. According to the report, food insecurity in Haiti will increase due to the conflict. (AP)
