The year 2024 is going to be very important for Pakistan cricket. Both Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cup are being organized this year. Men’s T20 World Cup is to be organized in the month of June and Women’s T20 World Cup is to be organized in October. On one hand, the men’s team has started its preparations and some old players have returned. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s female star player and former captain Bismah Maroof has announced her retirement from all formats of cricket with immediate effect. Bismah Maroof has taken this big decision in the World Cup year.
How was your career?
Bismah Maroof made his international debut for Pakistan cricket team in the year 2006. Where he represented his country in 276 international matches. Where he scored a total of 6262 international runs. Which includes 33 half-centuries. Along with the bat, he has also contributed to his team with the ball. Maroof also has a total of 80 wickets in his name. As captain, Maroof has led Pakistan in 96 matches, including the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020 and 2023 as well as the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2022. However, Pakistan team could not win even one of these titles.
What did Maroof say on retirement?
Maroof said in his statement that I have decided to retire from the sport that I love the most. It has been a wonderful journey full of challenges, victories and unforgettable memories. I would like to express my gratitude to my family, who have supported me in my cricket journey from the beginning till now. I would also like to thank the Pakistan Cricket Board for believing in me and providing the platform to showcase my talent. The PCB’s support has been invaluable, especially in implementing the first parental policy for me, which enabled me to represent my country at the highest level while being a mother.
Speaking to the fans, Maroof said, I am extremely grateful to the fans whose unwavering support I have received throughout my career, wherever and whenever I represented my country. Finally, I would like to thank my teammates, who have become like family to me. I will always cherish the memories we made on and off the field.
