Last month i.e. in January 2024, 4.82 lakh passengers were affected by flight delays. This not only became a cause of trouble for the passengers, but also affected the airline companies. Due to the delay, the airline companies had to spend Rs 3.69 crore as compensation. According to language news, this information has come to light in the latest data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday.
Number of domestic passengers in January
According to the latest data of monthly air traffic, the number of domestic passengers in January increased by 4.69 percent to 1.31 crore as compared to the same month last year. Domestic passenger traffic in January 2023 was 1.25 crore. In addition to flight delays, various airlines prevented 1,374 passengers from boarding flights last month, the data said. Due to this, Rs 1.28 crore was spent on arranging alternative flights and providing accommodation and catering facilities.
Indigo carried 79.09 lakh passengers
According to data from aviation regulator DGCA, airlines offered refunds and re-bookings to 68,362 passengers and also paid Rs 1.43 crore as compensation for flight cancellations in January. On the domestic passenger traffic front, IndiGo achieved 60.2 percent market share last month with 79.09 lakh passengers. After this, Air India had 12.2 percent share with 15.97 lakh passengers.
The data shows that 10.4 per cent of complaints were lodged over baggage-related issues and another 4.7 per cent over staff behaviour. Akasa Air, which began operations in August 2022, delivered the highest on-time performance from four major metro airports – Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. On average, 71.8 percent of flights arrived and departed on time.
