Lucknow. The perception is that Muslims vote against BJP, but according to a survey, the BJP has been able to achieve at least eight percent Muslim votes in Uttar Pradesh. CSDS-Lokniti with its survey revealed that out of 20 per cent Muslim votes, Samajwadi Party got around 79 per cent votes and BJP got at least eight per cent votes, which is an increase of one per cent over 2017.
The survey indicates that the community is ready to support the BJP, but it is indicated that it will be in collaboration with both sides and the BJP should make changes in its residence.
The main reason for this shift of Muslim votes to the BJP is that in Uttar Pradesh during the last five years, various welfare schemes have benefited Muslims as much as Hindus.
The Sachar Committee report said, “The condition of the community is worse than that of the Dalits.”
According to a survey of ‘Religion, Caste, Nationalism and Attitudes in India’ by US-based Pew Research Center, nearly 20 percent of Muslims voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“One in five Muslims voted for the BJP,” the survey said.
The 2019 CSDS-Lokniti survey had indicated 14 per cent support for the BJP. When the CSDS asked the community whether they would support the Modi government for another term ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, 26 per cent answered ‘yes’. Whereas 31 per cent Hindu respondents said that the Modi government should not get a second term.
