Thiruvananthapuram. A 79-year-old man torched his house in Kerala’s Idukki district in the early hours of Saturday, killing his son, daughter-in-law and two granddaughters.
According to Matthew John, the local public representative of Chinikuzhi village, the accused Hameed had strained relations with his son Faizal.
John said, “Hameed, who lives in the same house, first cut off the water supply to the house and neighbors’ house and then threw petrol in the room where his son Faizal, his wife and their two daughters were sleeping around 1 am. Then he started the fire. Faisal panicked as soon as the fire started and he called the neighbors, everyone came running, but the door was found locked from outside.
Unable to escape, all four died.
After this incident, Hameed tried to run away but people caught him and handed him over to the police.
