In this village, which was once considered a stronghold of Naxalites, in the first phase of Lok Sabha, 325 registered voters including 162 women voted for the first time to elect the Lok Sabha candidate. It is noteworthy that the setting up of a camp by the security personnel in Chandameta gave the residents assurance of their safety. They came out of their homes to exercise their democratic rights without any fear.

Earlier on Friday, Bastar Inspector General of Police (IG) P Sundarraj said that people were seen arriving and standing in queues outside the polling stations with full enthusiasm and confidence, adding that a three-tier security cordon was formed around the voters. . Of the 11 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, Bastar was the only one where voting took place in the first phase of the general elections on Friday.
Speaking to ANI, IG P Sundarraj said, ‘Strong and safe voting took place in Bastar in the first phase of general elections. Local people reached the polling stations with full confidence and without any fear. Three-tier security arrangements were made in the area and additional forces were also deployed in the border areas, special forces from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha helped us maintain security.
According to data released by the Election Commission (EC), a total of 1.87 lakh polling stations were set up for the initial phase, while 18 lakh security personnel were deployed in the 102 constituencies going to polls.
