In the battle of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi vs BJP-Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in Maharashtra, the Aam Aadmi Party is finding its way to expand. Aam Aadmi Party is quietly trying to increase its base in Maharashtra.
According to the Economic Times report, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has approached at least three senior Congress leaders to join the party. According to the news, among the Congress leaders whom AAP has approached are two former Lok Sabha MPs from Mumbai and a senior leader from western Maharashtra.
ET in its report said that the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP has also confirmed that talks are on. However, AAP said that it was the leaders who approached him and not the party who approached him.
AAP’s national executive member Preeti Sharma Menon said, “As far as I know, those I am talking about, they contacted us and not we did them. We have seen that people from Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena have contacted us. Contacted us.”
Some former Congress ministers are also in talks with AAP. He added: “Talks are still going on. There could be a long discussion about what they will contribute to our party.”
A Congress leader said that it appears that AAP is making serious efforts to make its presence felt in Maharashtra ahead of the 2024 assembly elections. He told ET on the condition of anonymity, “People were sent around the Punjab assembly elections, where they (AAP) came to power. My guess is that no senior leader will go now. However, if you say AAP If it does well in Himachal Pradesh and becomes more important in Gujarat, they will definitely reconsider it.”
This news comes at a time when there is growing uneasiness among some Congress leaders in Maharashtra, who are claiming that they are not getting their due within the government.
