‘The purpose of the rally is to protect the Constitution’
On the other hand, Congress said that the purpose of the ‘Save Democracy Rally’ of the opposition alliance ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (India) to be organized at Ramlila Maidan is not to protect any individual, but to save the Constitution and democracy. The Congress said the rally to be held on Sunday will send a ‘strong message’ to Lok Kalyan Marg (where the Prime Minister’s residence is located) that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government’s time is up.
While addressing the press conference regarding the rally, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior leaders including former Congress President Rahul Gandhi will address the rally. Ramesh said, ‘This is not a rally focused on any particular person. That is why it is being called ‘Save Democracy’ rally. This is not a rally of any one party, about 27-28 parties are involved in it. All components of ‘India’ alliance will participate in this rally.
Asked whether Sonia Gandhi would attend the rally, Ramesh said Congress president Kharge and former party president Rahul Gandhi would definitely attend while Sonia Gandhi could attend. Ramesh said that the ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (India) had blown its trumpet for the Lok Sabha elections in Mumbai on March 17 and this would be the second big rally of the opposition alliance after the announcement of the election date. He said that this will also send a message of unity and unity among the alliance.
