Many students from India had approached the High Commission. These are enrolled in three institutions operated by Rising Phoenix International Inc. These institutions include College H Montreal, CED College in Sherbrooke and CCSQ College in Longueil. All of them are in the province of Quebec.
The High Commission is engaged in providing assistance to the federal government of Canada, the provincial government of Quebec as well as the affected students. Contact is also being made with the elected Canadian representatives of the Indian community to resolve the issue. The High Commission said that if students are facing any problem in repayment of fees or in transferring fees, they can complain to the Ministry of Higher Education of the government of Quebec. Meanwhile, the Quebec government has asked affected students to contact directly the educational institutions where they are registered.
The High Commission has said in the advisory that students from India planning for higher studies in Canada are again advised to thoroughly verify the credibility and status of the institution before making any payment to such institutions. Ask for a certificate of accreditation from the federal or provincial government of Canada from the relevant institutions. The Government of Canada website has a list of verified institutions. The advisory also states that students from India in Canada or those planning to travel to Canada are advised to register online at their nearest Indian Mission or ‘MADAD Portal’.
The movement has been going on across Canada since January. Thousands of truck drivers and hundreds of other protesters gathered in Ottawa to express a strong protest against the necessity of a vaccine for truck drivers crossing the US-Canada border. The protesters are demanding that the authorities lift the COVID-19 restrictions. This movement has now turned into an anti-government protest. In this, various groups have united against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and called for the overthrow of his government. PM Trudeau is in trouble due to this movement.
