Two people were killed and around 50 were injured in a storm that hit West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district on Sunday. The deaths were reported from Block No. 1 of Moamari Gram Panchayat in Cooch Behar. Cooch Behar Municipality President Ravindra Nath Ghosh said, “Two people were killed and at least 50 injured in the storm in Moamari gram panchayat, block number one of Cooch Behar district. The storm hit Tufanganj, Mathabhanga and many other areas of the district. I have also done it.”
At the same time, the death toll due to the storm in Assam has increased to 20. The rain accompanied by thunderstorms in the summer season in the state is called ‘Bordeauxilla’. According to the bulletin, several houses were damaged due to lightning. Trees have been uprooted and power lines have been broken at many places.
A bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that eight more people, including two minors, died due to the storm. On Friday, three people died in Tinsukia district, two in Baksa and one in Dibrugarh. According to the bulletin, more than 12 thousand houses and other buildings have been damaged due to the storm that has been going on since Thursday.
More than 200 houses damaged in the storm in Mizoram
In the Kolasib and Mamit districts of Mizoram, more than 200 houses, including a church building, were damaged due to the storm that came with heavy rain and hailstorm. An official said that no casualties have been reported so far in the storm. The storm had hit two districts late on Saturday night. At least 220 houses and church buildings were damaged in Kolasib district, he said. Around 18 houses were damaged in Mamit district near the Assam border.
