new Delhi. Days after meeting Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday met senior party leaders Anand Sharma and Manish Tewari to discuss the proposal of the disgruntled G-23 group. In her effort to have a united face, Sonia Gandhi is reaching out to dissidents in the party who are demanding comprehensive reforms.
Azad had met the party chief on March 18 and said that there is no place for the post of president at present and no one has asked him to step down.
Distancing himself from senior party leader and fellow G-23 leader Kapil Sibal’s views on the change of leadership, Azad had pointed out that Sonia Gandhi’s proposal has been rejected by all groups, including her and “we want that she should remain the president.”
His remarks indicate that the internal battle of the Congress is heading for a ceasefire, as Gandhi continues to reach out to dissidents with senior party leader Rahul Gandhi, who does not have good relations with former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Have been, met him on March 17 and listened to his problems.
Later, Hooda met G-23 leaders.
