Why was re-polling held in Manipur?
There has been a lot of violence in Manipur in the last one year. There is an ongoing conflict between the two communities, due to which many people have lost their lives and hundreds of families have also been affected. Now thousands of people are forced to leave their homes and live in relief camps. In such a situation, there was not much enthusiasm for the elections here. All the candidates campaigned peacefully. The Election Commission was already afraid of violence during voting. For this reason, it was decided to conduct voting on Outer Manipur seat in two phases so that law and order can be maintained and voting can be conducted in a fair manner while ensuring the safety of everyone. Although voting was to be held in a single phase in interior Manipur, violence took place at several booths here too. After this the Commission decided to conduct re-polling at 11 booths.
