Churu. In Churu district of Rajasthan, the Atta-Sata tradition has poisoned the lives of a boy and a girl. This boy and girl were already engaged. But later their engagement was broken due to the Atta-Sata tradition. Still this couple did not give up. Both ran away from home and started living in a live-in relationship. But now they fear that their family members might harm them. Due to this, they are now forced to take shelter in the police.
The girl, who left home and went with her lover due to the Atta-Sata tradition, is a resident of Nakarasar village in Churu district. Her name is Priyanka. Priyanka studies in BA second year. Priyanka, who reached the SP office for security, told that her family had got her engaged to Ankit of Gudarbas village about a year ago. After the engagement, both of them started talking and they also started loving each other.
The girl’s family broke the engagement
Meanwhile, her family members wanted to marry her to another place under the tradition of Atta Sata. So she broke her engagement with Ankit. He explained a lot to the family members but they did not agree and remained adamant on their insistence. On this both of them made a plan to run away from home. Recently they left their respective homes. Priyanka called Ankit and both of them went to Ramgarh on bike.
Both ran away to Ramgarh
Both kept roaming here and there on bikes. Then came to Churu court premises. Here he got the documents made to live in a live-in relationship. Priyanka says that now her family members are scared. They can harm us. Therefore, they have come to the police demanding security. Ankit told that he does a private job in Hyderabad. But currently he is living here for 5 months. This couple says that living in a live-in relationship is their compulsion. Therefore they should be provided security.
Atta-sata is a very strange tradition.
It is noteworthy that the age-old Atta-Sata tradition is still in practice in Rajasthan. Under the Ata-Sata system, the girl has to marry a boy from her family instead of her. That is, if a boy is marrying a girl in someone’s house, then in exchange for that, another boy from the girl’s family is married to a girl from that boy’s family. Under this tradition, two couples are formed together.
