new Delhi. Congress President Sonia Gandhi had sought the resignation of party chiefs after the defeat in five electoral states. Sources say that now the in-charges of those states may also face the same fate, as their work has not been satisfactory. This issue has also been raised by the ‘G-23’ leaders. He has demanded that those involved in the election process should be shown the way out.
In-charge – Harish Chaudhary (Punjab), Dinesh Gundu Rao (Goa), Devendra Yadav (Uttarakhand), B.C. Das (Manipur) had reportedly told the high command that the party was returning to power, but did not get enough seats to save the party’s reputation.
During a meeting of MPs from Punjab with Sonia Gandhi, she was given the feedback that the party had lost due to mismanagement, especially by the party’s in-charge. The party did not have high hopes in Uttar Pradesh, but was sure of a respectable performance.
G-23 leaders also expressed surprise that none of the state in-charges offered to step down, which was a normal process in the party before 2014.
The Congress can dismiss these leaders and appoint new persons to reorganize the Congress in the states.
Sonia on Wednesday appointed five senior leaders to assess the post-poll situation in these states and suggested changes in the organization after holding talks with MLA candidates and important leaders.
Rajya Sabha MPs Rajni Patil Goa, Jairam Ramesh Manipur, Ajay Maken Punjab, Jitendra Singh in Uttar Pradesh and Avinash Pandey in Uttarakhand have been given the responsibility of assessment.
Prior to this decision, the party’s state chiefs – Navjot Sidhu (Punjab), Ganesh Godiyal (Uttarakhand), Namirkapam Loken Singh (Manipur), Ajay Kumar Lallu (UP) and Girish Chodankar (Goa) were asked to step down.
