Bangalore. Ramabhapuri Math’s chief Lingayat saint Dr Veerasomeswara Shivacharya Swamiji has said that it is wrong for Karnataka’s Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah to raise the issue of hijab frequently even after the High Court verdict. The High Court has ruled to make uniforms mandatory for school children. He said that it is everyone’s duty to follow the court’s decision.
He also objected to Siddaramaiah’s statement on Swamiji’s head covering while commenting on the hijab. He said, “Siddaramaiah has talked about the clothes worn by religious saints. It is not in accordance with his dignity. He should apologize and put an end to this issue.”
There is no connection between the headgear and the hijab worn by religious saints. The cap worn by sadhus is a cultural symbol of India. Swami Vivekananda also wore a cap. He said that there is a tradition of wearing caps in the state.
He told that the sadhus have taken up the task of propagating religious values by wearing turbans on their heads.
Siddaramaiah has made a statement on religious sages talking about the hijab, despite being well aware of the consequences after trying to divide the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community and suffering a setback in the elections. He said his statement has been condemned across the state.
Sanganabasava seer of Managuli Math in Vijayapura said Siddaramaiah had to step down after an attempt to divide the Veerashaiva and Lingayat community. Now again he has spoken about religious saints, which is not a good thing. “They should issue a clarification in this regard, otherwise people will throw them out of the state,” he said.
Siddaramaiah had said that the government should allow Muslim students to wear hijab and write exams. He further said that even Hindu and Jain women, religious sages covered their heads and saints wore caps and were not interrogated.
