The long-running standoff over the waters of Feni river flowing along the India-Bangladesh international border has been resolved. Last Saturday, the high officials of both the countries also inspected this area. South Tripura DM Saju Waheed said on Saturday that the high officials of both the countries have resolved to prevent erosion in some parts of the river banks.
Saju Waheed, a member of the Indian delegation and DM of South Tripura, inspected the approved projects on the river bank. He said that the joint visit was successful in every way as work on the plans is expected to start within the next two to three weeks. ,
He said it was a great success. There has been no development in these projects for the last 12 years. Whereas both the countries had given approval for water relations long ago. Land identification, field inspection and other construction works were getting delayed due to unforeseen reasons. He expressed hope that in the next two to three weeks work would start at the selected places.
He said that work has to be done on two important projects here, which are very important for the people living on the banks of the river. DM Saju Waheed informed that first of all, an intake well is to be constructed on the river, which will supply water to the water treatment plant at Sabroom. The objective of this project is to provide clean drinking water to the entire civilian area.
Under the second project, river water will be conserved and comprehensive measures will be taken to prevent soil erosion. He said that there are 19 such places in the Indian territory where soil erosion is taking place and information has been received at nine places along the Bangladesh border. In such a situation, both the countries will work together to prevent soil erosion. A total of 1.8 cusecs of water will be taken by India from Feni river for water treatment plant. This information was also given by the officials.
Agartala to connect with Dhaka and Chittagong by air: Deb
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said on Saturday that Agartala would be connected by air to the Bangladesh cities of Dhaka and Chittagong. A senior official said, “International flights between Agartala-Dhaka and Agartala-Chittagong may start in the next six months.”
The Ministry of Civil Aviation will soon invite tenders from private airline companies in this regard. Chief Minister Deb tweeted, “Finally, MBB Airport in Agartala is ready for international flights to Dhaka and Chittagong. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Civil Aviation Minister Scindia for this in a tweet.
