New Delhi: Sharad Pawar faction of Nationalist Congress Party has received a big blow from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has allowed the Ajit Power faction to use the clock election symbol. Whereas Sharad Pawar has been allowed to use the man blowing the bugle as his election symbol. The Supreme Court has passed this order on a petition filed by Sharad Pawar faction. Let us tell you that before the split, the election symbol of the National Congress Party was a clock.
Sharad faction had demanded a ban
In the petition filed in the Supreme Court, the Sharad Pawar faction had sought to stop the Ajit Pawar faction from using the ‘clock’ election symbol allotted by the Election Commission on the grounds that it was hampering the level playing field. A bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Vishwanathan rejected this argument and allowed the Ajit Pawar faction to use the clock election symbol.
Court gave this order to Ajit group
The Supreme Court also directed the Election Commission not to allot this election symbol to any other party or independent candidate. The court asked the Ajit Pawar faction to issue a public notice in newspapers in English, Hindi and Marathi that the ‘clock’ election symbol is sub judice and its use will be subject to the decision. The Supreme Court asked the Ajit Pawar faction to make a similar declaration in all election-related audio-visual advertisements and banners and posters etc.
EC had accepted Ajit’s group as the real NCP on February 6.
Earlier on February 6, the Election Commission had considered Ajit Pawar faction as the real Nationalist Congress Party. The Election Commission took this decision on the basis of majority. At that time the Election Commission had said that Ajit Pawar faction can use the name and election symbol (clock) of the Nationalist Congress Party.
