Lucknow. Samajwadi Party SP National President Akhilesh Yadav has been elected the leader of Samajwadi Party Legislature Party on Saturday. With this it has been decided that he will be the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was unanimously elected as the leader of the legislature party in the state legislature party meeting at the party’s state office.
After the Legislative Party meeting held in Lucknow on Saturday, State President Naresh Uttam Patel said that there was a meeting of the newly elected MLAs and members of the Legislative Council. Akhilesh Yadav has been elected the leader of the legislature party in the meeting. Akhilesh Yadav will remain the leader of the Legislature Party. SP leaders welcomed Akhilesh Yadav and greeted him. The leader of the legislature party was proposed by Awadhesh Prasad, which was approved by Alam Badi. The proposal of the Legislature Party was made by Lalji Verma, which was approved by Rajendra Chaudhary.
Later Akhilesh was unanimously elected the leader. Akhilesh Yadav, who entered the assembly elections for the first time, won from Karhal assembly constituency of Mainpuri. Karhal is considered the safest seat for the Samajwadi Party. Akhilesh Yadav, who contested the assembly elections from Azamgarh, has resigned from the Lok Sabha. Before Akhilesh Yadav, Ram Govind Chaudhary, who was MLA from Bansdih in Ballia, used to be the Leader of Opposition. This time he has lost the election.
He had resigned from the post of MP of Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency after being elected MLA from Karhal seat in the recently concluded Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He then said that this ‘renunciation’ was necessary for the struggle against social injustice. In a tweet, Akhilesh said, “Crores of people of Uttar Pradesh have given us the mandate of a people’s movement by giving us a moral victory in the assembly. To honor this, I will represent Karhal and will always be committed to the progress of Azamgarh.
“This sacrifice is necessary to fight against inflation, unemployment and social injustice,” he said. There was speculation that Akhilesh might take over as the leader of the opposition in the state assembly.
It may be noted that in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party formed an alliance with smaller parties. The SP alliance has got 125 seats. Of these, 111 MLAs are from Samajwadi Party, eight MLAs are from Rashtriya Lok Dal and six MLAs are from Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party of Om Prakash Rajbhar.
