Chandigarh. All five Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates from Punjab were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Returning Officer and Assembly Secretary Surinder Pal gave this information.
No candidate withdrew the papers on the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers for the elections.
Those who have been elected include politicians Sandeep Kumar Pathak, Raghav Chadha, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, educationist Ashok Mittal and businessman Sanjeev Arora.
AAP has registered a landslide victory in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections by winning 92 seats in the 117-member assembly.
Chadha, the party’s co-in-charge of Punjab affairs, is a confidant of AAP’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, Chadha won from Rajinder Nagar assembly constituency and became an MLA. He is also the Deputy Chairman of Delhi Jal Board.
Pathak had joined the party to contribute to Kejriwal’s dream of a corruption-free India.
He has been working behind the scenes for many years and is strengthening the party.
Famous cricketer and former India off spin bowler Harbhajan Singh played for the Indian cricket team from 1998 to 2016 and made a special place in the hearts of the people of the country with his amazing and unique bowling.
Mittal, the founder and chancellor of Lovely Professional University, is known for his work in the field of higher education and social service.
Born in a normal family, Mittal achieved success on the strength of his hard work and ability and achieved so much.
To contribute to the field of education in Punjab, he founded the Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar and it became one of the largest universities in India, with students from more than 50 countries studying.
Arora Krishna Pran, an eminent businessman from Ludhiana runs Breast Cancer Charitable Trust. He founded it after his family members lost their lives due to cancer and it is said that since the inception of the trust, it has given free treatment to more than 160 cancer patients.
