Aman Sehrawat Wrestler: India’s Aman Sehrawat has won the bronze medal in wrestling at the Paris Olympics 2024. He won the medal by defeating Darian Toi Cruz 13-5 in the bronze medal match in the men’s 57 kg freestyle. This is India’s first medal from wrestling in the current Olympics. Aman Sehrawat has created history by winning the medal at the age of 21. He has become the youngest athlete to win an Olympic medal in an individual event for India. He has broken PV Sindhu’s record.
The opponent wrestler was not given many chances
PV Sindhu won the silver medal in badminton in Rio Olympics 2016. At that time she was 21 years, 1 month and 14 days old. At the time of winning the medal in Paris Olympics, Aman Sehrawat was 21 years and 24 days old. Aman has been performing well for some time and has lived up to everyone’s expectations and won the medal. He used excellent footwork to defeat Darian Toi Cruz. The opponent wrestler could not stand in front of him and he did not give many chances to his opponent by putting pressure from the very beginning.
Aman was the only male wrestler from India to qualify for the Paris Olympics and he did not disappoint. Under 23 world champion Aman lost 0-10 to Japan’s Rei Higuchi in the semi-finals, but he did not give up hope of a medal. He was born in Jhajjar district of Haryana and his parents died in his childhood. He took up wrestling to fulfill his father’s dream and today has created history by becoming the youngest athlete to win an Olympic medal. Aman trained at the Chhatrasal Stadium, from where star wrestlers like Yogeshwar Dutt, Bajrang Punia, Ravi Dahiya and Sushil Kumar have learned the tricks of wrestling.
Indian wrestlers are winning medals in every Olympics since 2008
India has won a medal in wrestling in every Olympics since 2008 and Aman continued this trend. Sushil Kumar won bronze in Beijing (2008), Yogeshwar Dutt in London (2012), Sakshi Malik won bronze in Rio (2016), Ravi Dahiya and Bajrang Punia won silver and bronze respectively at Tokyo 2021. Kedhi Jadhav was the first Indian to win an Olympic medal in wrestling.
