Islamabad: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan is in jail and America is worried. America has stressed the need to ensure the safety of all prisoners in the country, including jailed Imran Khan. US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, in a press conference, acknowledged a meeting between US Ambassador Donald Blom and leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan.

Matthew Miller said the US ambassador discussed issues important to bilateral relations, including continued US economic support to Islamabad, with the opposition leader and other senior members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He said that relations between Pakistan and America are important.

The US has reiterated its resolve to maintain a neutral stance during Miller’s talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders over claims of ‘fabricated’ charges against 71-year-old Khan, Dawn News reported. The US said, “Our position remains the same that we do not take a position on elections in Pakistan.” Miller also stressed the importance of upholding basic human rights while maintaining impartiality towards political parties.
