Thane. More than three weeks after a couple allegedly murdered their 18-month-old daughter and quietly buried the body in a graveyard in Maharashtra’s Thane city, police exhumed the body. The police have also arrested the accused husband and wife. An official gave this information on Thursday. He told that some unknown person had sent a letter to the police informing them about the incident.
Thane police officer said that Zahid Sheikh (38) and his wife (28) Noorami, residents of Mumbra in the city, were arrested on Wednesday on charges of murder committed on March 18. Anil Shinde, senior inspector of Mumbra police station, said, ‘Police had recently received an anonymous letter, in which it was told that the couple had murdered their daughter Labiba and buried the body quietly in the cemetery. The police started investigation and took the couple into custody. Initially the accused did not cooperate, but later they narrated the entire story of the crime. However, he did not tell why he killed the girl.

Police officer Anil Shinde further said, ‘The couple told that they killed their daughter on March 18 and buried the body in a local graveyard. After this the police took out the body from the grave. The postmortem report has revealed injury marks on the girl’s head and other parts of her body. A case has been registered against the couple. Police Inspector (Crime) SA Dawnay said the couple was produced before a magistrate on Wednesday and have been sent to police custody till April 15.
Bihar case
In Gopalganj, Bihar, a father killed his daughter in a fit of rage because she wanted to marry a boy of her choice. The incident took place on March 19 in Bagahi village of Hathua police station area. After the murder, the father buried his daughter’s body in the cemetery in the dark of night. 10 days after the incident, some people had posted a video on social media demanding an investigation. The matter reached the police and in the presence of the magistrate, the police took out the body from the grave and sent it for post-mortem. The police had registered an FIR for murder against the girl’s parents and brother in this case.
