Therefore, patients from other states will also benefit.
Central government’s already reduced stent prices
It is worth mentioning that earlier the prices of stents were very high. Patients had to spend huge amount for angioplasty. The central government had in February 2017 reduced the prices of stents by 85 per cent. After this, under the amendment made by the National Drug Pricing Authority on March 2020, the maximum fee for non-drug stents is Rs 8261, drug containing and biodegradable stents, the maximum fee is Rs 30,080. According to doctors, before the new rates were implemented in GB Pant Hospital, the fee for drug-containing stents was fixed at Rs 23,625. There is a system to provide free stents to poor patients holding BPL cards, but other patients had no option but to spend Rs 23,625 for a stent. In AIIMS and RML hospital also, 23 thousand to 30 thousand rupees have to be spent for stent.
The GB Pant hospital administration had started the tender process for the availability of stents last year. Under this, stents containing Sirolimus and Everolimus medicines are now available in the hospital at low rates. The new rates of stents have been pasted outside the cath lab of the hospital. This has given patients the option of selecting stents according to their capacity. These stents are approved by the Drug Controller General of India. Doctors say that in case of a heart attack, an angioplasty in private hospitals costs three lakh to five lakh rupees. Whereas in GB Pant, angioplasty will now be done for just Rs 9450.
