Bangalore. The Karnataka Police on Friday took into custody Jamal Mohd Usmani, another accused who had threatened the judges involved in the special bench of the High Court that pronounced the order in the hijab case.
Usmani was arrested by Tamil Nadu Police and then handed over to Karnataka Police. The Karnataka Police produced him before the court. The court ordered Usmani to be sent to eight days’ police custody.
Earlier, the police have also detained another accused Kovai Rahmatullah. The police said that it is probing the entire syndicate working against the interest of the country.
Both the accused are associated with Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaat organization. Several complaints are registered against them in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
A special bench of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justice Krishna S Dixit and Justice Khaji Zaibunnisa Mohiuddin, while dismissing the petitions regarding wearing of hijab, said that hijab is not a necessary part of Islam.
Many organizations in Tamil Nadu protested against this decision. The video of the speech given by accused Kovai Rahmatullah during one such protest later went viral.
In the video, the accused was saying that a District Judge of Jharkhand was crushed by a car during the morning walk and people know where the Chief Justice of Karnataka goes for the morning walk.
After this, Tamil Nadu BJP President and former IPS officer K Annamalai urged Madras High Court Chief Justice M N Bhandari to get it investigated.
The Karnataka Police had registered the case on the basis of a complaint by advocate Sudha Katwa.
Karnataka Police has beefed up the security arrangements for High Court judges.
