new Delhi. For admission to undergraduate courses in universities, students have to pass the Common Entrance Test. A large section of teachers in Delhi’s schools and universities say that students should be given more time before implementing the Common Entrance Test scores. Teachers are demanding that the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) for admission to undergraduate courses should have been implemented from the next academic session instead of this session.
The National Progressive School Conference, a joint organization of about 400 private schools in Delhi, says that the intervention of the Union Education Ministry has been sought in this regard. The institution has written a letter in this regard to the Union Ministry of Education, demanding that the Common Entrance Test for admission to undergraduate courses of universities should not be implemented in the academic year 2022-23. The body of private schools says that the Union Education Ministry can implement this rule from the new academic session next year, which will facilitate the students and students will also be able to prepare themselves in this regard.
However, the appeal of private schools appears difficult to have any major impact. In fact, following the instructions of the UGC, the Academic Council of Delhi University has approved the CUCET i.e. Central University Common Entrance Test.
Under this provision, on the basis of marks scored in class 12th, admission in colleges will no longer be given. To get admission in the colleges one has to clear the Common Entrance Test in the academic session 2022-23.
In the council meeting, nine members were opposed to this new provision, but on the basis of majority, the University Academic Council has accepted this proposal.
A large number of Delhi University students are also supporting this new change. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has welcomed the decision of granting admission in undergraduate courses through CUCET in the University of Delhi. ABVP is of the view that with the implementation of CUCET, students coming from all the states will get equal opportunity to take admission in Delhi University and the admission process will also be easy.
According to the student organization, due to the difference in the evaluation method of different examination boards, the difference that used to arise from the marks of the board examination will also be removed through this entrance test.
ABVP has also demanded from the UGC that mock tests should also be started by the NTA for this entrance exam so that the students can understand the nature of the exam. The group of students studying in the university rated the entrance exam as the best.
