New Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday moved the Delhi High Court challenging the arrest made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam. Sources in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that their legal team will request the High Court to hear the case immediately, if possible on Sunday itself.
The lower court had on Friday sent Kejriwal to ED custody till March 28 for ‘detailed and sustained interrogation’. Kejriwal argued in his petition that his arrest and detention were illegal and he deserves to be immediately released from custody. Kejriwal was arrested by ED on Thursday night.
The ED had arrested Kejriwal hours after the High Court refused to grant him protection from penal action. Kejriwal had approached the High Court to quash all the proceedings including the summons issued against him.
This case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in the preparation and implementation of the Delhi Government’s excise policy for 2021-22. This policy was later canceled. Top AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are in judicial custody in the case. Kejriwal’s name has been mentioned several times in the charge sheet filed by the ED.
