New Delhi. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in liquor scam, is citing elections to get relief. The same thing has been said in the application filed by Arvind Kejriwal in the Supreme Court. Arvind Kejriwal has said in his application in the Supreme Court that the statements and alleged evidence on the basis of which ED arrested him are several months old. Arvind Kejriwal has said in the application given in the Supreme Court that his arrest is going to have a deep impact on the electoral politics of India. Arvind Kejriwal has said what can happen if he is not released. Kejriwal, accused in the liquor scam, has said that if he is not released, it will be an example for the parties in power to arrest the head of the opposition party in future.
Arvind Kejriwal had earlier said in the application filed in Delhi High Court that arresting him during elections gives a wrong message. He had declared his arrest and ED remand illegal in the Delhi High Court, but did not get relief from the High Court. Justice Swarnakanta Sharma of Delhi High Court had said in her long decision that the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal is legal. The court had also said that ED had prima facie evidence of his involvement in the liquor scam. Apart from this, the High Court had said that Kejriwal’s arrest is not a violation of the law. Arvind Kejriwal had approached the Supreme Court only after not getting relief from the Delhi High Court.
Kejriwal’s lawyers probably hoped that their client’s petition would be heard in the Supreme Court on Wednesday itself, but it did not happen. Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned it before Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, but the Chief Justice asked to email. Now today is Eid holiday. Then the Supreme Court will remain closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday also. In such a situation, the Supreme Court may hear Arvind Kejriwal’s application on Monday itself.
