The Indian Bridge Federation has selected a six-member squad for the upcoming Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China, with Debashish Ray as the coach cum non-playing captain.
The team includes 2018 Asian Games bronze medalists Sumit Mukherjee, Devvrat Majumdar, Jaggi Shivdasani, Rajeshwar Tiwari, Kaizad Anklesaria and Sandeep Thakral, the federation said in a statement.
Pranab Bardhan and Shibnath D Sarkar, who won gold medals in the last Asian Games, failed to make it this time. Debashish Ray was also the coach cum captain of the team in 2018.
He said, ‘The players selected this time have been practicing very hard for a long time. I am sure India will do well this time as well. The team was selected after the trials held in Pune earlier this week.
The team will represent the country at the World Bridge Championships to be held in Italy next month. India won doubles gold and team bronze medals at the 2018 Asian Games.
